Mechanicsburg – Doug Esh waited until the final turns of the final lap to steal the win in Friday’s 25-lap sprint car feature at Williams Grove Speedway. After starting in the 12th spot, Esh earned a $500 bonus for the win that ended up being worth more than $4,100.

In the 25-lap 358 sprint championship race, Kevin Nouse of Lewisberry scored his fourth career Grove win in the division, worth $1,200.

Derek Sell of Royersford led the first six circuits from the pole after the first two rows were swapped following a false initial start. Tim Glatfelter was following Sell when the races first caution flag waved just after the sixth circuit was recorded.

The restart was red flagged when Steve Buckwalter flipped across the fronstretch near the flag stand and got clobbered mid-air by Lance Dewease. Neither driver was injured.

With the lead, Sell entered lapped traffic with 10 laps to go followed closely by Glatfelter, who ended up driving by with 18 down as Esh began entering the picture along with seventh starter Brent Marks.

Marks motored into second with four laps to go and began tracking down the leader with Esh in tow.

With two to go, Marks had caught the leader but held back from trying a pass until just after the white flag when he pulled the trigger for what he hoped was going to be his second career speedway victory.

As Glatfelter raced into the first corner on the cushion, Marks drove low through the turns to slide up into the lead in the second corner.

But it was far from a smooth pass as Glatfelter backpedaled to maintain his composure before giving Marks a sender, punting him onto the backstretch.

With that, Glatfelter’s mount twitched sideways exiting the turn, which gave him a bird’s eye view of Esh streaking by to his inside and into second.

And a blink of an eye later, Esh swooped in on leader Marks to perform a massive dive into the third corner to crank out the victory in the last fleeting seconds.

It was the 19th time Lancaster driver Esh graced the Grove winner’s circle in his career.

Marks finished second followed by Sell, Chad Layton and slipping Glatfelter.

Sixth through 10th went to Frank Cozze, Danny Dietrich, Adam Wilt, Nicole Bowers and Gerard McIntyre, Jr.

Heats went to Wilt, Sell and Glatfelter with Dietrich taking the consolation race.

Chris Arnold led on the first circuit of the 358 championship before Nouse took over for what would be his win.

But before that could happen, he had to withstand the fast closing cars of Eric Tomecek and Logan Schuchart.

The pair had reeled in Nouse with 16 away and was ready to make it a three-car race for the lead when the yellow flag appeared.

However after the caution, neither driver was able to touch Nouse for the victory although Tomecek gave it the old college try on the restart as well as again on a restart with seven laps to go.

The final restart on lap 18 came after a red flag for a vicious frontstretch series of flips by point leader Pat Cannon who had started 22nd and had worked his way up to be inside of the top 10.

After slamming the outside frontstretch wall just past the flagstand, his car careened toward the pit opening while disintegrating. Cannon escaped injury after also flipping in his heat racer earlier in the night.

Also flipping earlier in the night was Michael Ruttkamp, who after hitting the backstretch bridge came to rest outside of the speedway’s backstretch. Ruttkamp was also uninjured.

Heats went to Nouse, Tomecek and Tim Berkheimer with Nate Hammaker scoring the consolation.

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/30/2011 – Score one for the little guys after the “410″ sprint car feature at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

Mechanicsburg’s Bill Stine took the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Derek Sell and then had to hold him off behind lapped traffic to win the first sprint car race of his career.

To call Stine a “low buck” racer is an understatement.

“We do what we can. We can’t run a whole season because we can only afford one re-build a year,” said Stine after exiting his Sanderson PowerSports/Unique Images/Baker Door Company/Beer Hill Gang #71X in victory lane, “So we took June off and went down to Florida and Vegas and had some fun. We came back here for July.

Despite losing the lead, Sell never gave up, and crossed less than a car length behind Stine in second. Jim Siegel, Alan Krimes, and Brian Leppo completed the top five, with Cory Haas, Aaron Ott, Brent Marks, Brad McClelland, and Sam Schlosberg rounding out the top ten.

“We come out here a of times and look like rookies,” said Stine, “We try different set-ups and tonight we tried something we never tried before and figured we had nothing to lose. I told the guys before we came out that we’d either win it or head to the rear. But it worked out. I want to thank my crew, including Bob Knisely, Scott Garrett, who is formerly Billy Kimmel’s mechanic, and John Jackson. We have some good guys behind us.”

Heats for the 24 “410″ sprinters were won by Sell, Ott, and Kyle Pruitt.

Kevin Nagy’s crossover move in turn four as the leaders were coming through turn four to take the white flag proved to be the race-winner in the 20-lap “358″ sprint car feature.

Nagy became the 13th different winner in 13 races in the division. He started on the outside of the front row and dogged polesitter and race-long leader Chris Arnold before taking the lead on lap 19.

Arnold settled for second, with Tim Berkheimer, lady driver Brie Hershey, and 11th-starting Jeff Rohrbaugh completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Bill Dietrich, Ted Thomas, Jr., Tim Wagaman, Billy Pauch, Jr. (who came from 1ith starting spot after rolling the Bewley #23B onto its side in his heat), and Isaac Sneeringer.

Rohrbaugh’s fifth combined with Dietrich’s sixth moved Rohrbaugh to within five points of Dietrich for the season-long points series lead heading into next Saturday’s 358 sprint car championship event at Lincoln.

Heats for the 35 “358″ sprinters were won by Chad Trout, Thomas, Berkheimer, and Rohrbaugh, with Niki Young coming from 11th starting spot to win the consolation after rolling onto his side in his heat.

Sykesville, Maryland’s Brian Diehl picked up his first career win in the 20-lap thundercar feature. Fourth-starting passed polesitter and race-long leader Al Crammer on the on the third lap and then held off all challengers over a final five-lap dash to the checkered to become the seventh different winner in 14 events in 2011.

Larry Neiderer and six-time winner Sam Gallagher pulled up to Diehl on the final lap but had to settle for second and third respectively.

Crammer ended up fourth and Mike Slaybaugh fifth. Completing the top-10 were Justin Mong, Jimmy Combs, Mikey Guise, Todd Miller, and Bob Johnson.

Heats for the 18 Thundercars were won by Al Crammer and Larry Neiderer.

Next Saturday night, August 6th, the Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 sprinters will run in a championship event paying $2,000 to the winner. The Super Sportsman & Central PA Legends will round out the three-division show which will get underway at 7:30 PM. Gates open at 5:30 PM.

Sell Racing Press Release

Royersford, PA…Sell Racing LLC is pleased to announce our 2011 racing plans as we quickly approach the start of the season. 2010 was a great learning year for this rookie 410 team and we feel very proud of our accomplishments while honing our skills with the best in the sprint car world.

Our season best finish of 4th at Lincoln, a hand full of top 10s and five heat race wins has us excited as we take this valuable experience into the 2011 season. With the help of Keith Kauffman and his brother in law Bob Brothers we were able to get the youngster comfortable in the car and finishing races consistently. That was our goal when we started the season.

For 2011 we plan to run a similar schedule as 2010 competing weekly at Williams Grove and Lincoln Speedways. Per their respective schedules this has us committed to 60+ races plus we hope to tentatively travel to Eldora and Charlotte.

This year we are proud to have Bryn Gohn as a member of the team providing set ups and at track support. He and Derek communicate very well and we are confident that Bryn’s years of experience, network and upbringing will allow us to obtain new levels of performance in this sport.

We would like to welcome back those supporters that have been with us from the beginning; Blue Tree Landscaping, Maxout Strength Studios, Pancho’s Racing Supplies and Don Ott Racing Engines. Keizer Wheels came aboard last season and has provided great at track support as well and we developed great friends from the Beer Hill Gang. For 2011 we would like to welcome Aero Wings and XXX Race Co. to the team as well.

Derek Sell and the Sell Racing 410 XXX, Don Ott sprint car will be at the 2011 Motorsports Show in Oaks, PA from Jan 21-23. We will be parked in the Williams Grove booth #609 and Derek will be available for autographs and photos for most of the show. Please stop by and say hello as we welcome in the 2011 racing season and as we count down to the Lincoln Ice Breaker in February. Vist us at www.dereksell.com , the Derek Sell Fan Club page on Facebook or Derek20s on Twitter for updates and progress on our season.

We’d like to personally thank you for your support and encouragement as we tackled 410 Sprint car racing at its highest level in 2010. As a young 16 year old rookie driver and rookie team we made our mark on Central PA and established a strong base from which to build upon in the future.

Derek raced weekly with and against the best in the business such as Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease, Greg Hodnett, Daryn Pittman and Tyler Walker. We also competed in three World of Outlaw events which raised the bar even higher. When you race at this level it can only make you a better racer and team. Through the season I can honestly say there were two feature events that were ours but got away from us due to inexperience. One at Lincoln and another at Williams Grove. Both proved to be top 10 finishes with the Lincoln race being a season best 4th place finish with several of the above names chasing the youngster to the finish line. Derek did manage to capture three heat race wins and that itself is no easy feat here in PA. We raced at five different tracks in the area with each having its own design and layout. This provided for great experience as well and taught Derek and crew how to adjust for different conditions.

We strongly feel we can be better. If all goes as planned we will have Derek in new cars for 2011 which will be the first for him. As he has been developing he has always had good equipment but always used equipment. He is now ready for two new chassis for our 2011 efforts. We are already fortunate to have two very strong Don Ott 410s in our stable and we’ve proven they have the horsepower to compete at this level. Lastly and probably most importantly we will be looking to bring on an experienced full time crew chief in 2011.

Special thanks to our wonderful sponsors; TheDirtShop.com, Pancho’s Racing Products, Super Shox, Blue Tree Landscaping and Maxout Strength Studios. Without your support and products we could not maximize our efforts with each outing. Thanks also to my dedicated track crew Luke and Super Fans Dave and Brent, you guys really make it fun. Last but not least I want to thank Keith Kauffman and Brian Montieth for the time you have personally spent with Derek to develop him into the aggressive yet patient racer he is today. Only good can come from the influence of either of these muti-Champions!

We will take the next few months to regroup and will see you all at the Motorsports Show 2011 in Oaks, PA in late Jan. We have been invited to put our car (and Derek) on display in the Williams Grove Speedway booth. Given the history and prestige of this great racing facility we consider this a great honor.

Have a safe and quick winter.

Sell Racing and Derek Sell is excited to introduce our new marketing partner to the Sprint Car community. TheDirtShop.com has come onboard the Sell Racing 410 Sprint Car team as a partner for the remainder of 2010.

TheDirtShop.com is an online Dirt Racing Store that provides one stop shopping for all of your Dirt Track gear and collectables. Find you favorite Sprint Car, Modified, Late Model or any other Dirt Track driver apparel on TheDirtShop.com. Where else can you browse and shop one location for this type of merchandise? This is the perfect solution for those that want to support their favorite team but do not have the time or means to get to the pits to buy a shirt. The proceeds from these sales go directly back to the teams so you are benefiting your sport by purchasing their merchandise.

Rob Sell of Sell Racing commented “we look forward to driving increased traffic and supporting the growth of this great new website. TheDirtShop.com provides a new channel for merchandise distribution for the race teams and through this we are able to reach many fans not accessible in the past. We are honored to be a part of this new venture and look forward to its growth as more teams and fans learn the value of TheDirtShop.com.”

Look for the TheDirtShop.com banner on the Sell Racing 410 this coming week. When you log onto the web following the races please take time to check out our new partner http://www.TheDirtShop.com.
